It seems to me hospice services are frequently misunderstood. So many don't know a patient can come and go from hospice. So many wait too long to have benefit of all of the available services.
You are absolutely correct, Robin! Thank you so much for sharing and drawing attention to the very fluid nature of hospice. People can not only change their mind. People can also become healthier and no longer qualify for the benefit because their prognosis changes as a result of the increased intensity of care. This is sometimes a joyful ”graduation”. An upcoming chapter will also point to the frustration, dissatisfaction and distress that can arise when a person becomes “too healthy” for hospice. Thank you for reading!
